Eleanor Jean Foster (nee Waugh). October, 29th, 1945 – April, 24th, 2015. Ellie passed away peacefully at Lakeridge Health Oshawa on Friday April 24th, after a courageous and inspiring battle with cancer. It has often been said that Miss Ellie was a free spirit and never met a stranger who didn’t soon become a friend. True to form, she provided laughter, love and levity of spirit to all those around her even during her final days spent on the 4F Supportive Care ward at LRHO.
Ellie was born in Belfast Ireland in Oct 1945, immigrating to Canada as a child with her family, eventually settling in the Oshawa area. Ellie has had a variety of occupations/careers during her lifetime including Secretary, Bartender, Cooking/Catering, YMCA staff and Public School Crossing Guard. Ellie is likely most remembered for her years of service at the Oshawa Airport and her time with the Oshawa 420 Wing RCAF. As an avid gardener with a green thumb, Ellie created a flowery oasis on her balcony each summer. She was a very talented gourmet cook and delighted in entertaining her vast collection of friends and of course her family. A devoted animal lover; Ellie fostered many sick/ homeless animals over her years and volunteered with animal rescue groups. Ellie was also a proud and dedicated volunteer at New Hope Dwellings where she was a long time resident in a strong community that she loved dearly. Ellie took great pleasure in helping with the buildings annual Holiday parties for the children and many other such activities; proudly winning Volunteer of the Year in 2013.
Eleanor is survived by her devoted Daughter Kelley Foster (Jim Richardson) and Granddaughter Alicia Foster (Michael Kennedy); her loving Son William Foster (Christina Foster) and “her boys” twin Grandsons Mitchell and Benjamin Foster; her Beloved Sister Francis Floyd (Don Floyd), nephew Shawn Osier and niece Dawn Lewis ( Mackenzie and Katie); and by her cherished cat Emma. Eleanor is predeceased by her Father William Waugh and her Mother/Best Friend Gertrude (Trudy) Waugh (nee Montgomery).

Condolences

I am a volunteer at Lake Ridge Health Oshawa and spent a lot of time with Ellie. She truly did not allow people to remain strangers and we shared many a laugh and many a serious conversation. 2 weeks before she passed I bought her a hamburger and ate my lunch with her. Last week she could barely talk and my visit was all too brief. I send my condolences to her family. It was an honour and a privilege to know her.
