Roy Maurice Best

January 1, 1939 – November 5, 2016

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Roy on his family farm on Saturday, November 5, 2016 at the age of 77. Roy is the son of the late Mervyn and Vera Best; beloved husband of Irene (née Hitchins) for 51 years; loving and proud father of Debbie Best (Luc); “Grandpa Roy” to Elora Jewel St-Laurent-Best. Roy is survived by older brother Arnold; brother-in-law to Tom and Jean Hitchins. Loved by nieces (Debbie M., Sarah H., Linda W.) and nephews (David M., Steven H., David B.) Roy was a loyal member of the Orange and Black Lodges, Springville and Bailieboro Churches, and a dedicated choir member. Strong supporter of the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada MS Walk with his friend Paul L. Roy loved his country music and faithfully attended Jamborees to sing and play his guitar. He was an Insurance Advisor for over 45 years for Canada Life Assurance and everyone Roy met became a friend.

My condolences to the Best Family on behalf of the members of the Provincial Grand Orange Lodge of Ontario East. I have known Roy for many years and always enjoyed his company. He was a dedicated Orange Lodge member and he will be missed.

Mark Alexander, Grand Master of the Provincial Grand Orange Lodge of Ontario East

I would like to extend my condolences to the family. Roy and I shared a room at Grand Orange Lodge sessions for years. Roy was always helpful in aiding my efforts to preserve the history of the Orange and Black lodges through the preservation of regalia and artifacts. Just a year ago he brought me a bag of pins, badges and caps. His tireless efforts to raise money for MS was a constant reminder to help others. None shall miss him more than his family, including his Orange family. I will miss him.

So sorry to hear about Roy's sudden passing. We have good memories of him, going back to when he worked with my Dad, Murray Roberts, at Canada Life Association. He supported this community in so many ways. One that always will be remembered was with the Psthway of Fame, from the beginning, both with participation at the Fundraising Jamborees and financial support. And you are to be so proud of his contribution to the MS Society. Again, our sincere warm feelings for your family. May you always be blessed by wonderful memories of the great man who was Roy Best. Warm regards June & Brian Punchard
