Lucy Balleny (nee Budgell)


Passed away peacefully on February 22nd, 2018 at the age of 89. To be reunited with her beloved husband Herbert with whom she shared 48 happy years of marriage.

Lucy was born in Bishop’s Falls, Newfoundland and was one of 13 children born to Sandy & George Budgell.  As a young lady Lucy traveled to Montreal to find work, where she met her husband who was also from Newfoundland. After being wed they stayed in Montreal where they raised their sons, enjoying all of the boys sporting events and holidays to their cottage.

Before dementia overtook her life, Lucy was fiercely independent & always on the go, she loved her family, music and children.

Survived by her loving brother Eric (Rose) of Belleville, Edna (Bob) of Montreal.

Much loved mother of Keith of Winnipeg, MB. & John (Shirley) of Bethany, ON.

Beloved Nana of Skyler (Kristin), Kyla (Jeff), Jennifer (Rick), Aaron (Nancy), Jennifer & Adam.

Proud great grandmother of Grace, Payton, Jordan, Elizabeth, Kayley, Ryan & Brayden.

To honour Lucy’s wishes there will not be a funeral. Cremation has taken place & her ashes will be interred with her husband in Montreal.  A celebration of life will be planned at a later date.

Special thanks to all of the staff at Fairhaven Nursing Home in the Riverside Special Care unit in Peterborough & the staff of Ballycliffe Retirement Lodge in Ajax for the wonderful care you gave to Lucy, treating her with compassion, gentleness & respect. Your kindness is greatly appreciated.

Lucy loved to laugh, dance and face would specially light up when she saw kids... You will be missed Lucy and will forever we in our Hearts
