Tina Whetung Obituary

Tina Whetung (nee Veer)

June 24th, 1935 - March 14th, 2024

Our dear mother was born in Andijk, Holland and immigrated to Canada in 1953 with her parents and 8 siblings. Tina embraced her new home with great love and wonder. She became an expert in everything to do with plants, both medicinal and edible. Forest walks were foraging expeditions, the natural world was her playground. As a survivor of the second world war, Tina recognized and related to the trauma of the Indigenous communities of this land. Her second marriage brought her to Alderville First Nation, a beloved community that welcomed and supported her and to whom she donated all she had to offer. Mom was a curious, creative and loving parent. She adored her growing family and all her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Her final home was the North Hastings Centennial Manor in Bancroft, ON and we thank the entire staff and all her friends there for their love and support.

Tina is lovingly remembered and will be deeply missed by her children Neil Vanderstoop (Carleen), Wanda, Audrey and Linda Vanderstoop. Stepchildren Everett and Meredith Whetung, (Linda Shaffer DECD). Grandchildren Danielle (Andy), Kyle (Larissa), Andrea (Frank), Krystal, Douglas (Kelsey) and Matias. As well as 11 great-grandchildren. Tina also leaves behind her two surviving sisters Effie Farago (Joseph decd) and Greta Evans (Keith). Also special relations Alfred Simpson and children Taynar (Lisa) and Shawna, Melody and Adam Crowe.

Tina is predeceased by husbands Albert Edward Whetung and Dick Johannas Vanderstoop. Parents, Jan and Grietja Veer (nee Kistemaker), siblings, Anne, Joe, Christine, John, Peter, and Betsy.

Cremation has taken place. Interment to be announced at a later date.
